...What better neighbors to have than over 50 species of birds that can be seen from sunup to sundown. Heron Cabin offers great birding because it includes a variety of habitats. The creek invites kingfishers and herons to feed in it's cold flowing waters throughout the year. The pine scrub habitat and rocky outcrops are perfect for a variety of warblers that pass through during migration, and offer good perches for hawks to hunt field mice and rabbits. In the open fields one can hear the trill of a field sparrow or the raucous calling of crows, jays, and maybe even a raven! The wooded ridgetops harbor nesting pileated woodpeckers, yellow shafted flickers, and both hairy and downy woodpeckers. There are so many bluebirds here that this could be called "Bluebird Cabin". Finally, the songs of the ethereal wood thrush and hermit thrush send chills through one's body and only increase the meditative state of mind that is so easy to achieve at beautiful Heron Cabin. I lived here for a year and hope that you enjoy your stay here as much as I did. Please add to the list!
